This webinar explored the role of machine learning and artificial intelligence in modern weather and climate prediction, examining how these techniques operated and where they added the most value compared with traditional numerical prediction methods. The discussions provided insights into the prospects and performance of AI‑based weather prediction, while also highlighting key challenges associated with applying these approaches in data‑sparse regions. The session supported informed decision‑making on the effective use of AI in operational forecasting and risk management, and was aimed at National Meteorological Services, research scientists, regional organizations and technical teams, as well as risk management professionals, government authorities, and non‑governmental organizations in WMO RA IV and beyond.
